QASID | Online Learning Program
As Director of Institute Development, the skills of project planning, presentation design, and international personnel management stimulated $100 000 in revenues within the first year of launching an online learning program which had priorly not been monetized after three years of scoping efforts. A revelatory hiring recommendation also brought an internet marketing expert on staff to expand the program, which would later become the institute’s exclusive revenue source as the COVID 19 pandemic disrupted classes on campus.
INTEL | Carecom
In a project management role, attention to staff sensitivities and cooperative relations arose as a vital factor to successfully navigate an intercontinental, medical product development partnership amid complex and frequently shifting, corporate and departmental dynamics. Through fostering collaborative understanding, our 35 member team was able to deliver quality, multi disciplinary requirements exceeding original expectations.
WATSON | Comfort Control System
As Director of Product Development, a $500 000 annual cost savings is gained by leveraging a consumer electronics background to recognize and facilitate an unprecedented opportunity for a manufacturer of wood, steel, and laminate office furniture to develop a strategically proprietary, digital comfort control system for users of their emergency call center consoles.
T H O U G H T F U L L DESIGNING
INTEL | Senior Industrial Designer
Joining the User Centered Design group in 2005 was a stimulating career step, given that it constituted a complete, product development group with a global scope but without mass producing end user products per se. As a Senior Industrial Designer, I would apply my creative talents and leadership skills while also imbibing large scale, enterprise business operations and honoring my environmental ethics . . .
LUMA | Entrepreneur
In early 1997, an increasing, ecological consciousness was nagging for a change in my high profile, southern California, design consultancy lifestyle. Eventually choosing to trust principles and passion over pay and position, I affably fired my boss and returned to Seattle, Washington to start my own, furniture and interior ware design and fabrication business . . .
GRANDESIGN | Senior Industrial Designer
Wanting to work while traveling through Europe in 1999, a friend put me in touch with José Manuel dos Santos at grandesign. José had a relatively youthful, Portuguese team at the time, and was looking for an infusion of foreign, senior design proficiency.
I was readily enamored with José and his staff for their animate, yet balanced, não faz mal [“never mind”, “that’s fine”] approach in the studio and in life, as I would find was intrinsic to Portuguese culture itself . . .
T H O U G H T F U L L PERSONAL
PERSONA | Bio
Raised in a rural town in the United States, Pacific Northwest region, I grew up with a love of nature and exploration. Whether devising contraptions in the garage, or building forts with friends in the forest, the act of making was innate.
The Olympic and Cascade mountains, the Pacific Ocean, Puget Sound, a cabin on Lake Cushman, and the lush woods surrounding my childhood neighborhood were the environs in which I spent my time making, playing, snow skiing, boating, hiking, and mountain biking . . .
PERSONA | OUTREACH
Performing market and consumer research in the early years as a product designer had stirred an active interest in studying the world through the eyes of others.
Although, I also knew that things are best known when experienced for one’s self, which meant taking my query outside my own culture . . .
