Exchanging information in an engaging manner

Qasid Arabic Institute

John Arbak | Director of Institute Development | Nov 2011 to Aug 2020

Introduction

Coming on board from a design background including products and graphics, and having a personal penchant for writing, I was readily able to contribute to the plethora of collateral used by the institute to interact with students, parents, and partners worldwide.

Among my early observations was a number of legacy logos being used, prompting a font adjustment in the current logo and a redesign of the staff’s business cards for a more distinguished look.

This effort then led into the development of a consistent, documentation and presentation standards program to add public confidence in the organization’s integrity, and to build brand recognition.

In addition to corporate identity development, numerous other projects would then include :

  • Website design, copy writing, and design consultant management

  • Admissions and administrative documents, and translations

  • Facilities signage and a multi colored embossing stamp

  • Conference banners and advertising

  • Textbook design and binding program

  • Online instructional formatting standards

  • Orientation and closing presentations and supporting graphics

Revising an existing, 16 page brochure with a better coordinated color palette to complement updated photography, and 4 new pages of copy to promote the recently added, online program. The changes retained the vibrancy of the original brochure, with added sophistication and improved focus on the content itself.

Authoring an operational standards document for employee searches and job training, describing a Director of Student Services position. As the primary contact for students to address their concerns, it was vital to convey the personal quality of interactions required in the role, in addition to the practical responsibilities involved.

Preparing the first 20 pages, the paperback covers, and a CD label for a language instruction book of over 200 pages with an accompanying audio CD and podcast series. The project included the graphic design and page & type formatting of provided content, as a proposal for publication with a university partner.

Creating a 7 page packet to greet residents moving into their Qasid Housing homes, answering the many, anticipated questions and concerns upon arrival. The packet was printed for a personal touch (literally) and placed on residents’ beds to act as their concierge, briefing them on their new surroundings and sharing essentials to start their study abroad journey.
